Where Are We Going To Put The Waist in Dior £17k Dress?

I really want the new Christian Dior to succeed. Jonathan Anderson’s latest collection for the brand is among the ones that stayed with me the most this season — though not without nuances. The website has just been updated again, and there are now RTW that feels more fashion-forward rather than simply plain merchandise.

But let’s take a look at this dress. Fairytale-like, isn’t it? The price is £17,000 (until now, the most expensive piece on the website from the new RTW was a pleated silk dress priced at £13,000).

However, on closer inspection you start to notice not only the strong idea, but also the details:

1. There is no waist — especially at the back. The silhouette is technically not fully resolved, and even the very slim model looks as if she had been eating heavily for a week straight.

2. The bottom of the dress wrinkles and also appears technically imperfect.

3. This is despite the fact that the images have been retouched — it is clearly visible in the back view.

4. An obvious opportunity was missed to present the look with more balanced accessories (only two pics at the product page) — which could have created a natural upsell.

5. Do you honestly think that women who wear dresses priced at £17,000 don’t brush their hair?

Wrote about this dress — and how it could have been translated into a more compelling merchandising proposition — here.
